The School of Engineering at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, a well renown engineering educational institution in Latin America and ranked among the top four emerging leading schools in engineering education worldwide[i], invites outstanding candidates to apply to a full-time faculty position in the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department.


High quality teaching (at undergraduate and graduate levels), and conducting independent research. Additional duties include knowledge transfer, outreach, and university administrative tasks. The new position in Finance should conduct research in Finance. Areas of interest include Financial Engineering, Financial Econometrics, Quantitative Finance, Financial Accounting, Entrepreneurial Finance, Corporate Finance, and Behavioral Finance

  1. A research statement (in Spanish or English) indicating the immediate and long-term goals of the applicant’s research plan and detailing potential collaboration networks with other researchers and plans for interactions with scientists in Chile and other countries.
  2. A teaching statement of purpose (in Spanish or English) indicating why the applicant should be considered for the position and the plans for teaching. The applicant should be as specific as possible by providing examples of the plan to transfer knowledge to undergraduate and graduate students.
  3. An updated curriculum vitae (in Spanish or English). 
  4. If available, copies of five recent Web of Science publications that are relevant to the context of the application.
  5. At least, three letters of recommendation, which must be e-mailed directly by the signatories to [email protected]



Applicants must hold, be currently pursuing, or committed to pursue in the short term a Ph.D. degree in Finance or related areas in a top world institution. The selected candidate will be expected to participate and formulate independent research projects and apply to external grants. Due to the interdisciplinary nature and focus of the School of Engineering, active interactions are also expected with local and international collaborators. If the selected candidate does not have the PhD degree, she/he will be hired as Adjunct Instructor until the moment of her/his graduation, when she/he will be promoted to Assistant Professor according to the University Regulations.

The skills to conduct high-quality research and teaching is a mandatory requirement. Candidates should be qualified to perform work within academic teams and lead scientific and industry-liaison initiatives. Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration is highly valued as the selected candidate will be expected to interact with other people within the Department and School, to develop independent research projects, and to be involved in an active research agenda.

Excellence in teaching is also mandatory, and selected candidates will be required to create new undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as teach traditional courses in related areas. They should also participate actively in the development and improvement of the curriculum. Teaching load comprises three semester-long undergraduate or graduate courses per year. Spanish language is not required at the time of application, but fluency in Spanish should be enough to teach courses in this language before the end of the second year.

Consequently, applicants must demonstrate potential for excellence and a strong vocation for all aspects of university life, be highly motivated to continuously improve their teaching skills, have a genuine interest in getting involved in our graduate programs (especially the doctoral program) and be able to develop and maintain an active research agenda (producing publications, research grants, among others).

Candidates do not need to be fluent in Spanish at the time of application, but should be prepared to learn the language well enough to teach in this language in the short term (two years maximum). English is a requirement.
