Description

  • Assist with the execution of the Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) program and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements, particularly the design and implementation of entity-level controls, business process controls, and information technology controls.
  • For assigned control areas, lead the risk assessment and risk identification process, including the design and structuring of new controls while demonstrating critical thinking skills to autonomously implement solutions. Ensure controls are implemented and are operating effectively and efficiently to address the risks and support an unqualified independent audit opinion.
  • Assess new processes or changes to existing processes for risks. Identify, develop, and document control gap issues using independent judgment, providing recommendations and designing controls for improvement.
  • Ensure control documentation is maintained within Workiva Wdesk, the controls management solution. Work with control and process owners to document updates to controls and processes; ensure accounting system changes/updates and other process improvement initiatives adequately address ICFR.
  • Execute daily operations in support of financial controls for compliance with ICFR requirements.
  • Lead internal control walkthroughs with internal audit and external audit or regulators. Coordinate engagements with external auditors and information requests to facilitate an efficient and effective audit.
  • Deliver ICFR training to department heads and employees to ensure that internal business and operational personnel understand their roles and responsibilities related to control operation.
  • Work with the Internal Audit Team and Control Operators to resolve any control deficiencies. Assist with the development and communication of remediation plans.
  • Complete required reporting.
  • Participate in key initiatives and assist with other projects, including operational finance objectives.
  • Develop understanding of inter and intra-company accounting relationships, loan accounting system, GL interfaces, and integration of all systems, databases, and vendor support that impacts the financial statement and reporting accuracy.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of GAAP accounting/reporting, ICFR expectations from the ICFR system workgroup, and ICFR expectations from regulatory bodies and the Association’s external auditor.
  • Assist with other responsibilities and projects as requested.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and/or equivalent related experience
  • 4 or more years of experience in Accounting or Audit (1-2 years Audit experience strongly preferred)
  • Experience working with ICFR and SOX compliance from a Finance and/or IT perspective
  • Working knowledge and understanding of COSO Internal Control Integrated Framework
  • Ability to assess processes and systems to identify key control activities, document and flowchart processes clearly, determine whether controls are functioning properly, and identify improvements to drive efficiency and effectiveness
  • Proficient in spreadsheets and flowcharting applications
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently, assume ownership of areas of responsibility, and take initiative to identify and solve complex problems, set priorities, and see projects through to completion.
  • Ability to work proficiently within deadlines and thrive on working in a fast-paced environment; experience managing multiple priorities within a high-energy, collaborative, fast moving environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • CPA or CIA certification.
