The Veterinary Clinic Manager at Stray Cat Alliance is a strategic leadership position. You will manage the day-to-day operations of a bustling, around the clock rescue veterinary practice that serves our fostered and on-site animals. The manager is expected to be able to perform all veterinary technician duties when needed as well. You will keep the clinic focused on our core no-kill philosophy, while providing excellent customer service and helping us grow to meet the increasing demands of Southern California’s community and shelter cat populations. The Veterinary Clinic Manager is responsible for managing the staff to ensure efficient, high-quality medical care is delivered to a large volume of cats and kittens.


The Veterinary Clinic Manager supervises the Assistant Clinic Manager, all veterinary technicians, and the shelter cat caregivers. The Veterinary Clinic Manager reports primarily to the Director of Operations, and defers to the Medical Director for all medical-related decisions.


  • Oversees the day-to-day functions of the clinic staff and its programs, ensuring operations are in line with specific policies as well as overarching organizational goals and values.
  • Helps create and implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and systems to improve efficacy and efficiency of care.
  • Manages staff and volunteers, including scheduling, supervising, and disciplinary action for clinical and cat care personnel.
  • Maintains effective communication among veterinarians, technicians, cat caregivers, and volunteers.
  • Sets and adheres to budgetary goals, including all supply ordering and researching cost-efficiency measures wherever possible.
  • Focuses on customer service improvements, resolves customer complaints and facilitates interdepartmental communication to address issues as they arise.
  • Re-prioritizes operations to deal with emergency situations as they arise.
  • Interviews, hires, and trains new staff, as well as clinic volunteers.
  • Maintains record-keeping and procedures in accordance with DEA, OSHA, and Department of Health requirements.
  • Strives to advance personal managerial talent by seeking appropriate learning opportunities.

  • Minimum of 2 years experience working in the veterinary medicine industry, sheltering or other animal field
  • Minimum of 2 years management experience, including direct staff management, is required
  • Veterinary or similar provider operating experience required
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, mission, vision, and values of Stray Cat Alliance and the No Kill movement
  • Must love cats
  • Staff and volunteer supervision experience required
  • Exceptional customer service skills and abilities
  • Animal handling experience in an animal shelter, rescue, veterinary office, training or boarding facility
  • Knowledge of animal welfare and feline health issues
  • Ability to excel in an unstructured environment and both initiate and execute the creation of protocols, processes, procedures and support materials where none exist
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills required to maintain positive relations and obtain cooperation with a broad group of stakeholders at all levels with different needs and interests
  • Ability to remain composed while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects at once and prioritize assigned work to meet deadlines
  • Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to produce high-quality work in a dynamic environment
  • Willingness to be flexible and to go above and beyond to meet the needs of Stray Cat Alliance stakeholders
  • Computer skills and office equipment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Spanish-language skills are preferred but not required

Salary commensurate with experience


  • Must be able to routinely lift 40-50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work around animals (including deceased, injured, and/or potentially aggressive animals), loud noises, chlorine or other chemicals, inclement weather, and evening, weekend, and holiday work.

  • Full-time with an average of 40 hours per week; on-call as needed.


  • Full-time employees are eligible for insurance benefits after 30 days.
