Essential Functions:

  • Reviews and implements table and seating diagrams.
  • Ensures facility is appropriately set for scheduled banquet functions and is responsible for complete set up, stocking and service of assigned area and breakdown.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of food and service.
  • Ensures that the name of every staff member assigned to an event or function appears on the banquet sign-in sheet, and that the staff signs the sheet prior to leaving the event or function.
  • Prepare assignments for staff assigned to each event. Includes assignment for each portion of the work shift including set-up, reception, dinner, event tear-down and side work.
  • Conducts lineups with the staff at the start of each shift. Inspects uniforms, reviews assignments, and steps of service for each event.
  • Communicates with banquet kitchen staff and service staff before and during banquet functions and events.
  • Know the menu for each function served and be able to explain the major ingredients and preparation methods for each item to be served.
  • Introduces self and greets guests at assigned area and provides timely, friendly, and courteous service.
  • Responsible for drink orders and proper wine serving.
  • Obtains the food when prepared, delivers order to respective guest, observing service standard guidelines.
  • Reviews banquet event orders (BEO) requests for scheduled banquet functions and events.
  • Closes banquet event orders (BEO) checks in Micros.
  • Compile consumption at the conclusion of the event or function, ensuring that the correct numbers of items & persons are charged for.
  • Communicates variances to Convention Services Manager.
  • Assists in routine inspection of meeting room space, tables, chairs, equipment, china, flatware, and linen to ensure acceptable par levels as well as ensure proper storage and maintenance.
  • Adheres to health, fire, and safety regulations.
  • Ensures departmental compliance with all regulatory, internal controls, policies and procedures.
  • Creates a positive, supportive environment.
  • Other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 21 years of age required.
  • A minimum of two years related experience in a banquets/catering role required.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including extended hours, weekends and holidays, and perform multiple tasks and prioritize efficiently.
  • Excellent customer service skills and an upbeat and positive attitude required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor required.

Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands:

  • Must have physical ability to walk 5+ miles during a work shift and capable of standing during the length of one's shift.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and employees.
  • Must be able to respond calmly and make rational decisions when handling customer needs and concerns.
  • Must be able to listen and respond to visual and aural cues.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, twist, turn, push and pull, balance a service tray, as well as lift and carry a minimum of 25 lbs.
  • Must have the manual dexterity to grab, grip, hold, pour, tear, cut, sort, and reach.
  • Must be able tolerate areas containing varying noise, temperature levels, illumination, vibration, and crowds.
