The Assistant Dean for Experiential Education will have primary oversight for the experiential education curriculum for The School of Pharmacy. The Assistant Dean for Experiential Education provides academic leadership as it relates to all aspects of experiential education: development of contemporary experiential education curriculum, evaluation of the introductory and advanced pharmacy practice experiential courses, oversight for quality assurance, ongoing preceptor engagement and the annual preceptor training forum (200-300 clinical affiliates). This position, at the rank of clinical assistant or associate professor, serves as a direct report to the Executive Associate Dean for the School of Pharmacy. This position oversees the experiential department of the School, which consists of the Director of Experiential Education and the Coordinator of Experiential Education.


  • Implements Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) standards, guidelines and educational outcomes pertaining to experiential education. Supports accreditation activities as required and in cooperation with other Associate/Assistant Deans and the Dean of the School.
  • Leads the development of contemporary experiential education course syllabi; leads assessment and quality improvement initiatives related to experiential curriculum.
  • Oversees interprofessional education activities in experiential courses. Liaises with interprofessional partners.
  • Provides oversight for assignment and management of experiential education schedules for all students.
  • Prepares volunteer/adjunct/affiliate faculty appointments/reappointments and evaluations.
  • Serves as liaison between faculty, staff and students in matters involving experiential education.
  • Reviews and approves new site recommendations; conducts or supervises site visits for continuous quality assurance.
  • Plans, develops and delivers preceptor education and training.
  • Delegates administrative and management tasks and supervises personnel as appropriate.
  • Works with the Executive Associate Dean and support staff to evaluate and streamline processes while maintaining continued quality of the experiential training programs.
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of up-to-date experiential program manuals.
  • Identifies procedures to recognize excellence in precepting students (e.g., conduct clinical affiliate recognition workshops, provide clinical affiliate recognition certificates).
  • Develops proposals for experiential training initiatives and obtains support for new and/or continuing activities (e.g., program expansion, regional initiatives).
  • Incorporates new technology applications into experiential education program.
  • Provides feedback regularly to all faculty regarding student experiences.
  • Works with faculty to ensure the goals and objectives, as well as the policies and procedures, of the experiential education program are being met and followed.
  • Maintains relationships with local and national practitioner organizations and AACP.
  • Participates in teaching as appropriate to faculty appointment and area(s) of expertise, conducts student orientation and on-going training pertaining to experiential courses.
  • Conducts scholarship that advances the theory and practical application of experiential learning and development of experiential education faculty/personnel.
  • Participates in professional affairs activities of local, state and national pharmacy organizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


1. Doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) with pharmacy practice experience. Prior experience as a preceptor with a College/School of Pharmacy required. Completion of post-graduate clinical residency is desired; additional clinical experience after residency completion is strongly preferred. Experience managing/leading cross-functional teams strongly preferred.

2. Current pharmacist licensure in good standing.

3. Ideal candidate will:
a. Have an understanding of academic pharmacy, experiential education, and ACPE accreditation standards related to curriculum and experiential education;
b. Demonstrate a desire to participate in expanding new educational platforms, including learning/evaluating new emerging technologies in higher education;
c. Demonstrate leadership and initiative in supporting School’s assessment and accreditation efforts;
d. Possess excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with faculty and external constituents;
e. Be able to work independently and as an effective team member;
f. Have a record of accomplishment in scholarship, teaching and/or service eligible for academic appointment at the rank of clinical assistant or associate professor;
g. Have a vision for the future of pharmacy education.
